John Conboy, former producer of The Young and the Restless and many other soap operas, has passed away.

Legendary soap opera producer John Conboy has died. The Young and the Restless' Judith Chapman (Gloria Abbott) shared the news via her Twitter account.

"It is with a heavy heart and a grateful smile that I called him my friend," she tweeted. "BIG JOHN CONBOY RIP"

Conboy served as executive producer for several daytime dramas during the genre's so-called "golden age." He served as Y&R's EP from 1973 to 1982, helmed the ship at Capitol from 1982 to 1987, was EP for Santa Barbara in 1991, and was the head honcho at Guiding Light from 2002 to 2004.

The producer, who won four Daytime Emmy awards during his illustrious career (Outstanding Drama Series for Y&R in 1975 and 1983, and Santa Barbara in 1990, as well as a trophy for Outstanding Drama Special for 1974's The ABC Afternoon Playbreak's The Other Woman), has many additional credits, including After Hours: From Janice, John, Mary and Michael, with Love; After Hours: Singin', Swingin' and All That Jazz; and The Solitary Man.
